Grandma's Marathon a Go for June 2021

Minnesota Plans to Loosen COVID-19 Restrictions Before Race Weekend - (DULUTH, MINN.) --- The 45th annual Grandma’s Marathon weekend has received the green light for June, which comes as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced a loosening of the state’s public health guidelines on Thursday afternoon.

Surging away from Simon Kariuki and Hidkazu Hijikata at 36 kilometres, Kengo Suzuki won the Lake Biwa Marathon in Otsu, Japan, on Sunday (28), clocking 2:04:56 at this World Athletics Elite Label race to break the Japanese national record.

Eliud Kipchoge will make his final marathon appearance prior to his Olympic title defence at the NN Mission Marathon in Hamburg on 11 April.

ELITE FIELDS SET FOR THE MARATHON PROJECT

The sixth-fastest American woman ever in the marathon will be joined Sunday in Chandler, Arizona, by five of the top 10 men's finishers and four of the top 10 women's finishers from the U.S. Olympic Trials marathon for The Marathon Project 2020, an event custom-made for quick times over the 26.2-mile distance.

COVID-19 Mitigation Efforts in Place to Ensure Safe, Fun Racing Experience - ATLANTA – November 1, 2020 -- Runners who participate in next year’s Publix Atlanta Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K won’t have to climb any of Atlanta’s famous and relentless hills in 2021. This year’s temporary course will be pancake flat. With the uncertain future of events in Atlanta due to COVID-19, Publix Atlanta Marathon Weekend will move to Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2021 and be held as a series of by-appointment races to allow for safe social distancing.

Vienna City Marathon moves from April into September - The Vienna City Marathon is the second major international marathon which has been moved from a spring date of 2021 into the second half of the year. The race is now scheduled for 12 September. This spring organizers had to cancel Austria’s biggest one day sporting event due to the corona virus pandemic. Because of the ongoing uncertainties during the pandemic there was too much risk continuing to plan with a race on 18 April 2021, organizers explained. The first major race that was moved from spring into the autumn in 2021 was the London Marathon. The Vienna City Marathon is a World Athletics Gold Label Road Race.

We understand that COVID-19 has turned your world upside down as it has ours. Normally we would be seeing you at various Fall Marathon race expos but clearly that is not happening. We also know that most of you would be purchasing your Spring Marathon / Half Marathon before the end of the year.
