Principe, Mareno Lead Junior Mile Fields in Boston
BOSTON, Mass. AJC Peachtree Road Race to Host 2017 USA 10 km Championships
Two-Time World Champion Bernard Lagat first to commit to world’s largest 10K in 2017 - ATLANTA – January 11, 2017 – The USA 10K champion will be named on Independence Day as the men’s and women’s USATF 10 km Championships return to Atlanta at the 2017 AJC Peachtree Road Race. One of the most decorated middle distance runners in history, Bernard Lagat, will join other top U.S. athletes to kick off Atlanta’s July 4th celebrations alongside the 60,000 participants of the world’s largest 10K.

EA President reports on Delivering Change - LAUSANNE (SUI): European Athletics President Svein Arne Hansen has released his 'Delivering Change' report – a review of European Athletics' work in 2016 to deliver his Leading Change agenda and make athletics 'Your Sport for Life,’ informs European Athletics. "In the 20 months since I was elected to lead European Athletics our sport has navigated through a very challenging period. Our agenda for securing European Athletics’ financial future, modernising its operations and making athletics ‘Your Sport for Life’ throughout Europe was somewhat overtaken by events largely out of our control, and the focus of our efforts has been dictated by priorities different from those we might have imagined in April 2015,” he said. He added the “tough decisions taken by the IAAF and the role Europe has played in the governance reform process are a source of great pride” and the sport has “shown the willingness to face up to the adversity and take the necessary steps towards rebuilding the trust.”
Five Team USA Minnesota Runners to Compete at Aramco Houston Half Marathon Jan. 15; Houston Marathon Foundation Renews Support of Team
Minneapolis/St. Paul – Jan. 10, 2017 – Five Team USA Minnesota distance runners – Rob Molke, Jon Peterson, Kevin Lewis, Ryan Rutherford and Jamie Cheever – will compete at the Aramco Houston Half Marathon on Sunday, Jan. 15. The event, which starts at 7:00 a.m., is part of the 45th edition of the Chevron Houston Marathon Race Weekend.

POY: van Niekerk and Ayana - MOUNTAIN VIEW (USA): World records from Olympic Games are the Performances of The Year by Track and Field News. Wayde van Niekerk´s 43.03 in the 400 m and the 10 000 m by Almaz Ayana 29:17.45. The international panel of voters had little trouble in deciding that. Van Niekerk became the first man in the history of the voting to produce the unanimous No. 1. In men top five is second 603 by Thiago Braz in Rio, 22.52 in shot put by Ryan Crouser also from Olympics is third followed by two marathon marks, 2:03:03 Kenenisa Bekele in Berlin and 2:03:05 Eliud Kipchoge in London. In the women section more World records were in the selection. Second place for Keni Harrison 12.20 in the 100 m hurdles, third Ruth Jebet 8:52.78 steeple and fourth and fifth two WR´s of Anita Wlodarczyk (82.98 and 82.29).

Obiri beats Kipyegon - SAN GIORGIO SU LEGNANO (ITA, Jan 6): Olympic 5000 m silver medallist Hellen Obiri defeated Olympic 1500 m champion Faith Kipyegon at the Campaccio Cross Country (IAAF CC Permit). Obiri won the senior women’s race in 18:33 by three seconds from Kipyegon with reigning world cross country champion Agnes Tirop third in 18:56 to make it a Kenyan sweep. Ethiopia’s Gelete Burka was fourth in 19:02 with Sara Dossena the top Italian finisher in seventh in 20:33. Muktar Edris (28:54) and Imane Merga (28:55) led an Ethiopian one-two in the men’s race with Kenya’s Jairus Birech third in 28:59. Olympic steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto finished sixth in 29:20 with Yemaneberhan Crippa the top home finisher in eighth in 29:48.

Eatons bye-bye - EUGENE (USA): Ashton Eaton and Brianne Theisen-Eaton have jointly announced their retirement from athletics on their official website. Eaton is unbeaten in multi-event competitions since the 2011 World Championships and has won two Olympic and five world titles indoors and outdoors in that period as well as breaking the world heptathlon (6645p) and decathlon (9045p) records. “Frankly there isn’t much more I want to do in sport. I gave the most physically robust years of my life to the discovery and pursuit of my limits in this domain.
