No men´s IAAF outdoor WR in 2017
MONACO (MON): There was no senior male IAAF World Record broken for the outdoor events in 2017. That happened last time in 2000 but in case we do not count 3:37:26 in 50 km walk by Russian Valeriy Spitsyn (was not an official record at that time). But before 2000 this happened back in 1907. Whether it is good or bad sign remains for a debate. Two marks were best ever, but are not official for record purposes. Wayde van Niekerk clocked fastest ever 300 m 30.81 in Ostrava and Eliud Kipchoge ran marathon in 2:00:25 in special project on Monza race course. Women were in 2017 more succesful in World records. Joyciline Jepkosgei achieved two in half-marathon and also two at 10 km (one as a split) and also WR´s at 15 and 20 km as splits. Unfortunately 15 km and 20 km road races are currently no longer World record events. Two World records were also achieved by Ines Henriques in the new women event 50 km walking. Also to be mentioned is Mary Keitany´s WR in only women marathon 2:17:01 in London.
