This is day two, Week Ten of the 2023 RunBlogRun Winter Training Block.

Today is a fartlek workout. Fartlek is the Swedish word for “Speed Play”.

Fartlek has been part of training regimens since the 1930s when Swedish National coach Gosta Holmer developed this innovative training program to help athletes develop speed, strength, and endurance at a bespoke level. The beauty of fartlek is that it can be hard or easy and can be personalized.

The same five athletes could be doing two minutes hard, two minutes easy, ten times, and each could be doing it within their specific needs.

For your workout, today, warm up slowly, then,  a 60-minute fartlek workout, 3 minutes hard, 3 minutes easy, ten times, then fifteen-minute slow cooldown.
